STARTING HOURLY RATE: RANGE OF $57.10 PER HOUR (PAY RATE), $57.35PER HOUR (CALC. RATE) 

STATUS: FULL TIME

LOCATION: FOUR LAKES OFFICE - 10110 W HALLETT RD., SPOKANE, WA 99224

HOURS: MONDAY TO THURSDAY, 6:30 A.M. TO 5:00 P.M.

PURPOSE OF POSITION

To test, repair, calibrate and install all types of electrical metering equipment for industrial, commercial, and residential installations. Maintains cooperative electric metering equipment and provides power quality inspections for other cooperative and member applications as directed.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Using precision test equipment in the shop or field tests, repairs, installs, and maintains all types of customer metering equipment including, but not limited to kwh meters, demand meters, recording devices, instrument transformers, pulse initiating devices and remote metering. 

  2. Installs and removes C/T metering transformers, sockets, enclosures, and conduits. 

  3. Installs, removes, and reads load survey recorders for cooperative and member information. 

  4. Analyzes and may correct customer voltage problems and transient voltage disturbances (using electronic test equipment) that affect the operation of computers, computer-controlled machines, motors, appliances, etc.  Makes recommendations to members, electricians, and Line Department personnel. 

  5. Analyzes circuits for load, power factor or voltage on customer's premises to provide data for metering changes and member information. Meets with electricians to assist in metering design including metering location and mounting. 

  6. May perform turn-ons, turn-offs, and collections on three-phase accounts. 

  7. Performs high bill tests on member's premises and explains rates, billings. 

  8. Analyzes circuits or meters for error and calculates amount of power loss or overcharge. 

  9. Investigates metering installations for current diversion and/or theft; evaluates evidence and recommends action.  

  10. Installs security devices such as lockboxes, lock rings and metal meter covers.  Removes or repairs damaged equipment. 

  11. Prepares various reports and records, including mileage, meter testing, engineering, transfers, and expense accounts. 

  12. May direct activities of personnel in equal or lower classifications. 

  13. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Education/Experience

    • Meets requirements of Journeyman Meterman and possesses a National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) Journeyman Meterman certification or equivalent.

    • ​High school diploma or GED.

    • Requires a valid driver’s license (Class A CDL is preferred, but not required).

 

  • Knowledge and Skills:

    • Knowledge of National Electrical Safety Code, National Electrical Code, Washington State Electrical Safety Code for utilities, power line construction, methods, materials, and equipment.

    • Knowledge of utility accounting systems.

    • Knowledge of Rural Utilities Service contracting requirements and construction standards along with OSHA standards.

    • Ability to read electrical blueprints, schematics and meter wiring diagrams or have the aptitude to quickly learn these skills.

    • Additional experience in electronics or as electrical wireman is desirable.

    • Must be proficient at the use of a personal computer and familiar with Microsoft Office Suite, i.e., Outlook, Excel, Word.

    • Other combinations education/experience may be considered.

 

  • Preferred Job Qualifications:

    • 2 years Journeyman Meterman experience preferred.

    • Understanding of relevant environmental concerns.

    • Ability to manage diverse work functions while balancing and adjusting priorities in accordance with changing requirements.

    • Ability to respond quickly and effectively to a rapidly changing work environment.

    • Ability to work under pressure.  Must be able to make decisions with minimal data.

    • Must be able to work more than 12 hours during extreme outage situations.  Must be available for unscheduled work as needed.

The journeyman meterman shall have full authority to carry out these duties and responsibilities in conformity with established policies and procedures and shall utilize time in such a way as to fulfill the objectives of this position and the Cooperative.
