PURPOSE OF POSITION

The communications specialist is responsible for a wide range of member-related and other communication activities and tasks at the cooperative. This position is responsible for promoting Inland Power and its objectives and programs while ensuring consistent and effective messaging regarding the cooperative. Duties include writing, designing and producing ongoing member and other communications of various types, monitoring and contributing to Inland Power’s social media platforms, administering Inland Power’s website and assisting in internal and external communications.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Write and produce various external member communications as well as internal communications efforts across multiple platforms.
     

  2. Assist in communication initiatives for the cooperative as needed. Assist with the development of member communication pieces such as newsletter, brochures and press releases.
     

  3. Monitor and contribute to cooperative’s social media platforms.
     

  4. Educate members about cooperative products, services and incentive programs to promote member satisfaction and efficiency.
     

  5. Administer the cooperative website, which includes keeping information current, providing guidance to others regarding website maintenance and upgrading and ensuring the overall usability and esthetics of the site.
     

  6. Promote the Inland Power brand while ensuring consistent messaging of the cooperative objectives.
     

  7. Assist in conducting external media communications during outages via press releases, social media and the cooperative’s messenger platform.
     

  8. Assist in Inland Power’s member events such as our annual and town hall meetings.
     

  9. Assist in Inland Power’s community foundation communication and program efforts.
     

  10. Prepare materials for special projects as assigned.
     

  11. Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education/Experience

  1. BA or BS in Communications, Marketing, Journalism or related field.
     

Knowledge and Skills

  1. Must be fully competent in Microsoft Office software and have ability to use other communications related applications such as Adobe Creative Suite.
     

  2. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills. Must understand and write in AP Style. Must be able to identify and create varied means to effectively communicate with Inland’s members and others.
     

  3. Previous experience in business communications, marketing or print journalism is encouraged. General knowledge of office procedures required.
     

  4. Must be able to build and maintain relationships with a wide range of people across the entire cooperative. Ability to understand complex energy related topics and translate them into readable, understandable information for multiple audiences. Must be comfortable working under deadlines.

Working Conditions

  1. Typically normal office environment with low to moderate levels of noise exposure and a temperature-controlled work area.
     

  2. Occasional work outside of business hours for various events and meetings with groups and individuals as necessary to perform duties.
     

  3. Use of office machines, including computer, keyboard, mouse and related peripheral devices.
     

  4. Some travel may be required.

The communications specialist shall have full authority to carry out these duties and responsibilities in conformity with established policies and procedures and shall utilize time in such a way as to fulfill the objectives of this position and the cooperative.
