PURPOSE OF POSITION
Lead the ongoing monitoring, maintenance, and operation of the Automated Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system. Ensure AMI system is operating according to specification, by coordinating all maintenance and repair activities, including utilization of and coordination with outside contractors when necessary. Respond as appropriate to field locations for troubleshooting and system performance evaluation. Provide internal training to employees on proper installation of equipment and the utilization of AMI software, as applicable to their job. Act as liaison between AMI vendor and Inland Power for technical questions and support. Maintain integrations with existing systems and respond to data requests from others within in the organization.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Act as the subject matter expert for all components (software, firmware, equipment, communications, collectors, repeaters, modems, routers, and ancillary devices) used in the operation of the AMI network.

Manage the day-to-day AMI system health issues and activities.
-
Address AMI communication issues.
-
Manage testing and approvals of the system software and meter firmware upgrades.
-
Manage, monitor, analyze, troubleshoot, and ensure timely repairs of the AMI system, network, and associated equipment.

Develop, implement, and manage a yearly maintenance plan.
-
Assist with the implementation, monitoring and maintenance of communications (cellular, fiber, etc.) for AMI, Distribution Automation, and other field devices.

Work with members to resolve questions and safety concerns directly pertaining to the AMI system.

Coordinate activities of third-party contractors as needed.

Act as primary liaison with AMI vendor.

Negotiate leases at N/C tower sites and coordinate maintenance of these sites.

Explore and implement new technology and products that would enhance the performance of the AMI system.

Maintain all software integration points between AMI and other software systems used throughout the organization.

Act as primary point of contact for system integrations and ad hoc data requests from other departments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB REQUIREMENTS
1. Minimum Qualifications:
a. High school diploma required.
b. At least one of the following is preferred:
i. Bachelor of Science from an accredited college or university, preferably a computer
or engineering related degree program.
ii. 2-5 years of relevant AMI system experience.
2. Knowledge and Skills:

Knowledge of telecommunication systems and IP networking architecture.

Knowledge of utility revenue metering.

Knowledge of utility distribution system architecture.

Knowledge of Meter Data Management systems.

Strong knowledge of software tools used for data aggregation and analysis (e.g., Excel, Oracle, MS SQL Server, Python, MS Power BI).

Familiarity with CIS/OMS applications and GIS Mapping Software (e.g., NISC and ESRI preferred).

Familiarity of Cyber Security best practices.
-
Familiarity with Linux.

Familiarity with Networking concepts - Routing, VPN, SDN

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

The AMI Specialist works independently and therefore this position requires a “self-starter” that is both highly reliable and very well organized.

The AMI Specialist shall have full authority to carry out these duties and responsibilities in conformity with established policies and procedures and shall utilize time in such a way as to fulfill the objectives of this position and the cooperative.
